Filoli Gardens
“When I discovered the Filoli Historic House and Garden in Woodside, California, I was instantly inspired by the magnificence of its flora. I have painted large, lush bouquets to celebrate each season of blooms, and I have been deeply inspired by the many peonies cultivated there. Long celebrated in China as “the sovereign flower”, the peony delights my heart.”
People and Landscapes
“As a faculty member at Jiangsu Academy of Traditional Art in Nanjing, China I traveled to many regions of the country where I painted stylized scenes of folk life. In America my favorite painting subjects for people have always included my family members. And in my travels, such as to Italy as depicted here, I have filled folio books with ink paintings of the landscapes and people I saw there.”
Golden Gate Park
“Ever since I arrived in San Francisco in my early 30s I have happily spent many long hours studying the flowers and birds in Golden Gate Park and its marvelous Botanical Garden. With every changing season fresh blooms inspire my brush.”
Pine Studio Garden
“Landscaped in the classical style of a Chinese scholar’s garden, my own back yard blooms all year round with some of my favorite flowers and plants. It especially inspires my paintings of poppies, roses, magnolias, and chrysanthemums together with accompanying poems and other calligraphy.”
